Miss-REPRESENT

Exhibition Dates: 15 June - 3 July 2016

A Council curated exhibition of digital media and costume design, presented by six contemporary Aboriginal artists.

Contemporary Aboriginal artists Megan Cope, Hannah Bronte, Katie West, Lorna Munro, Merindah Donnelly and Tjanara Talbot set the record straight about misconceptions and misrepresentations of Aboriginality. Unapologetically conveying their individual beliefs and journeys through digital media and costume design, these six artists employ humour, satire and hip-hop to confront preconceptions of identity. Strong, informed and connected, these young and creative women take pride in standing up and representing.

The exhibition includes Cope’s video, The Blaktism, which received the Western Australian Indigenous Art Award in 2015.

Miss-REPRESENT is part of the Guringai Festival 2016.
