Mobility scooters

Mobility scooters, often referred to as ‘gophers’, are considered motorised wheelchairs. Designed as mobility aids, they typically have two or more wheels and can reach speeds of up to 10 km/h on flat surfaces. These scooters are specifically intended for individuals who are unable to walk or have difficulty walking. It’s important to note that a mobility scooter does not include motor-assisted recreational devices like motor scooters, prams, strollers, trolleys, or similar machines.

When using your mobility scooter, you're considered a pedestrian. You must follow the same road rules that apply to pedestrians.
