Hand embroidery on paper workshop with artist Tracy Stirzaker, creating a Self-Worth Totem Artwork.

About the Workshop

Inspired by her personal journey, artist Tracy Stirzaker invites you to take time for yourself and create an artwork totem in this hand stitch on paper workshop.

Working with embroidery threads on paper, create a unique hand stitched totem of a canary to remind you of self-worth and self-love.

A totem is an object that serves as an emblem or a reminder. The canary or inner canary and the words I AM ENOUGH are totems used by Tracy Stirzaker in this workshop.

Using embroidery threads, you will learn how to hand stitch into paper and create a unique artwork with text, and/or images. Feel free to bring along you own totem inspiration or use the canary and/or words I AM ENOUGH.

Each participant will receive a white box frame to present their artwork totem, ready to hang in their house.

All materials will be provided - paper, needle, threads, frame. No experience necessary.

Refreshments provided.

Free: (Valued at $160)

Ages: 16+

This workshop is held within the relaxed and friendly environment of the art exhibition More Myself - A Journey of Self Love by Tracy Stirzaker. Be inspired to create an artwork totem that you can take home.

This project has received funding from Willoughby City Council.

About the Artist

Sydney based artist Tracy Stirzaker sees herself as an observer and critic of contemporary Australian society and is inspired by her lived experience.  Employing painting and textiles techniques, Stirzaker uses the repetition of motifs in her artwork to explore the emotional body within the everyday constraints of social politics, cultural values and beliefs.

Tracy Stirzaker has exhibited regularly in group exhibitions.  A finalist in both the Hunters Hill and the Ravenswood Women’s Art Prizes in 2018, Stirzaker had her first solo show at Gallery Lane Cove in 2018.  Stirzaker had her 2nd solo show in 2019 at White Rhino Artspace, a gallery she cofounded and directed, in St Leonards.  After years doing local art classes Tracy Stirzaker pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts at UNSW Art & Design 2016.

This project More Myself – A Journey of Self Love was awarded a Willoughby Arts & Culture Grant in 2021 and is Tracy Stirzaker’s third solo art exhibition.
