The MOSAIC Centre has officially re-opened in its new premises at the Dougherty Community Centre, marking the beginning of a new era for the multicultural community hub.

MOSAIC provides services to Willoughby’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community, including supporting community members to connect, learn and showcase and celebrate different cultures.

After two decades at Brown Street, the centre has relocated to Victor Street’s Dougherty Community Centre, which has been upgraded and refurbished.

This transition means MOSAIC can offer the CALD community a meeting space in larger, modern and accessible premises, while remaining in the heart of the Chatswood CBD.

Willoughby City Mayor Tanya Taylor said the MOSAIC Centre has been instrumental in supporting the Council area’s diverse and multicultural community.

“Next year will mark 30 years since MOSAIC was first established in Willoughby,” Mayor Taylor said.

“Our community is home to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, with the latest Census showing that the percentage of Willoughby’s residents who are either overseas born, or speak a language other than English at home, is growing.

“At MOSAIC, precious friendships are formed and our city’s diverse culture is embraced. For many of our community members, this has been life changing. “

The MOSAIC Centre offers various services including counselling information and referral services, English lessons, leisure activities, community social groups, technology programs and a school holiday program. The centre’s volunteers are also regularly seen participating in Willoughby’s community events.
