Peter McNair - Citizen of the Year 2015

Citizen of the Year Award

Peter McNair has lived in Northbridge for more than 60 years before moving to Cammeray in 2012. His contributions include involvement with the Rotary Club of Northbridge, including a presidency where he was instrumental in the club raising funds for Queensland flood relief, the Christchurch earthquake and the tsunami in Japan. He has also been President of the Northbridge Progress Association and managed their Centenary celebrations in 2013, which included restoration work to the War Memorial Clock tower in Strathallen Avenue. And he is currently the president of the Northbridge Probus Club. He is also an excellent singer, both for his church choir and for the Willoughby Symphony Choir.

Sophia Huang has been an active part of the Evangelical Formosan Church of Sydney for the past 15 years and has contributed greatly to the church’s community outreach initiatives in Willoughby and Chatswood. She also heads up the Taiwanese Ladies Dance Group, is involved with the MOSAIC Multicultural Centre and has organised elements of major community events like the Colourful Taiwan Festival.

Cultural & Community Building Award

Andrew Larkey has been an amazing support and inspiration to the Girl Guides of the Willoughby community in the role of Support Group Leader for Artarmon District Guides, which encompasses the Guide units in Artarmon and Northbridge. As a former SAS Captain, his enthusiasm and commitment has helped empower girls to become responsible community members, and the Artarmon District Guides are known to have the best map-reading, compass and marching skills in Sydney! He is also the current Director of Club Morale for the Willoughby Wildcats AFL Clu

Cultural & Community Building Award

Jean Dubois has given more than 40 years to The Church of Christ in Chatswood, providing assistance in areas of administration, pastoral care and generally being the go to person in the church. She is sometimes there seven days a week providing whatever assistance is required. She also used to serve the community as a registered nurse until she retired. 

Young Citizen of the Year Award

Sophie Lewis is a young singer/song writer who has performed at Willoughby community events including the Headspace launch, local festivals, and Cancer Council’s Relay for Life fundraiser. She has also played Cello with Lane Cove Youth Orchestra for many years at many community events.
