Celebrate International Women’s Day on Thursday 7 March at Chatswood Library with not one, but two inspiring and thought-provoking presentations.
Women in Islam with Souha Korbatieh
Thursday 7 March 2019, 12pm to 1pm
This free lunchtime presentation featuring Souha Korbatieh will break down common misconceptions on the position of women in Islam as Souha discusses Islamic laws, worship and spirituality.
Souha has a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Jurisprudence from UNSW and a Masters of Islamic Studies and plans further study in Islamic and Western criminal law. She teaches community classes in Islam and to year 12 students as part of the Studies of Religion syllabus. Souha is also a volunteer at the Refugee Advice and Casework Service following two years at Legal Aid NSW.
Women Leaders in STEM Expedition to Antarctica, with Mary-Ellen Feeney

Join Mary-Ellen Feeney as she discusses some of the key learning initiatives and the amazing environmental context of her month-long expedition to Antarctica to promote Women leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
An expedition of 80 female leaders from 28 countries set sail for Antarctica on 31 December 2018 with a message about the urgency of strengthening female participation in the decisions defining the planet's future.
Ms Feeney has a 20-year career in science and technology as a geospatial scientist and geographical information system consultant. She has studied both science and geomatic engineering.
