Residents agree Willoughby Council excels at customer service

Free activities, excellent parks, outdoor spaces and art centres, are among the list of things council is doing well, with scores well above the state average, according to a residents’ survey.

Over 71% of the 723 people who responded to an independent survey rated the overall performance of Willoughby City Council as ‘good’ or ‘very good’. Only 4% rated Council’s performance as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’.

Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney said the performance index score of 72 was higher than the Sydney metro council score (by 11 points) and the Victorian metro council average (by 8 points).

“Our services that rated more than 80% ‘good’ or ‘very good’ were libraries, waste and recycling, maintenance of bushland areas and parks and ovals, art centres, the appearance of public spaces including the Chatswood shopping precinct, and community and cultural activities,” Mayor Giles-Gidney said.

Services rated more than 70% (‘good’ and ‘very good’ combined) were children support services, the attractiveness of streetscapes, caring for the environment and elderly support services.

Top of the list of the ‘best things Council is doing’ were the free activities like Vivid and Emerge Festival.

The survey by independent research company, Woolcott Research & Engagement interviewed 723 residents over the phone, online, and face to face in March, 2018.

“The results confirm the ongoing outstanding service that Council delivers to the Willoughby community.  It shows that Council values customer feedback and leverages that feedback to improve its customer experience,” Mayor Giles-Gidney said.

But there is still work to do with the areas of greatest concern being traffic and parking, planning and building permits. Many of these issues were captured in the Council’s 10 year community strategic plan called Our Future Willoughby 2028, and are being action in the Delivery Program 2017-2021 and Operational Plan 2018-19
