Calling BMX Bandits: upgraded Bonds Corner BMX track now open

14 April 2016

Twenty thousand dollars worth of upgrades to the BMX track at Bonds Corner, Northbridge have been completed in time for the school holidays, with the track now open again to cycling and BMX enthusiasts.

The new track will provide a safe, enjoyable and progressive cycling facility for individuals and families in the Willoughby area.

Designed as a ‘pump track’, with input from professional BMX designers, the track enables cyclists to use a pumping motion to maintain speed around the track so the user does not have to pedal. Several jumps are also a feature of the track.

The BMX track is just one component of current and planned upgrades at the Bonds Corner site, which include the building of a new playground (Stage 1 to be complete in May 2016), to meet the current and future needs of the Northbridge community.

The centrally located Bonds Corner also features tennis courts and BBQ facilities.

“It’s great to see the BMX track updated and open again for community use. The upgrades mean the site is a safe, family-friendly recreation facility, designed for both fun and for the skill development of junior and experienced riders. It’s a great addition to the Bonds Corner site,” said Willoughby Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney.
