The Willoughby Symphony has a date with DESTINY this July
30 June 2016
7pm, Saturday 30 July & 2pm, Sunday 31 July I The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood
The Willoughby Symphony’s fourth concert of the year, DESTINY, will open in an exhilarating eruption of sirens as an expanded percussion section performs Matthew Hindson’s explosive Boom Box.
Composed in 1999, Boom Box is a vibrant piece that opens a door into the unique imagination of 2016 Composer-In-Residence, Matthew Hindson AM, whose repeated rhythms and dynamic energy invigorate and revitalise audiences across the world.
Rising star Harry Bennetts will appear as guest soloist in a spectacular rendition of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, under the baton of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM. Having performed the piece countless times as a violinist himself, this is a musical collaboration not to be missed!
The orchestra will then perform Tchaikovsky’s most compellingly beautiful symphonic utterances, his heart wrenching Symphony No. 5, a work of the deepest emotive power combining soaring melodies with richly imaginative orchestration.
“The Willoughby Symphony’s DESTINY concert will be an incredible experience you won’t want to miss,” said Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM. “Watch in awe as our brilliant percussionists set your heart racing in Boom Box, be overcome with emotion during Tchaikovsky’s beloved Symphony No. 5 and feel your heart skip a beat as our soloist demonstrates his expert technical skill in Violin Concerto," he said.
