Illegal dumping

It is illegal to leave any unwanted waste (including rubbish, furniture, electrical goods, mattresses and garden waste) on public and private land, including nature strips and kerbsides

Council staff actively investigate illegal dumping. Anyone caught dumping can be fined $4,000 on the spot.

Materials can only legally be left on the kerbside or nature strip if there is a scheduled or pre-booked clean-up collection. Clean-up collections are a Council service to help residents manage their waste. Residents may only leave materials out from the Sunday night before a collection week. Any materials left on kerbsides outside of this time are considered illegal dumps and are treated as such.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has more information about dumping.

If you have information about a dumping incident, report it online or call Council on 9777 1000.
