Ground closures

Willoughby City Council has a duty to protect people as well as the community's recreational areas. Poor weather conditions or other factors may mean that a ground is unable to be used for a period of time.

To find out if a ground is closed, check below for updates or call the Wet Weather Line on 9777 7631 for a recorded message. Signs may be placed at the grounds.

In the event of wet weather, updates to the status of natural turf sportsgrounds will be published on this page by 2pm on weekdays.

All turf sportsgrounds are OPEN.

Synthetic sportsgrounds: Chatswood High School Oval, Gore Hill Oval, Northbridge Oval and Thomson Park Oval are OPEN and at the discretion and guidelines of the hirer and/or association.

Other synthetic facilities (cricket nets, hard court basketball and netball courts): Open

The following factors influence a ground's closure:

  • the potential for people using the ground to be injured
  • the sport being played; and
  • how much the surface may be damaged
  • the weather forecast; and
  • the condition of the sportsground when an officer inspects it

A sporting club or association has no authority to approve the use of a ground when Council has closed it. Anyone using a closed field may be charged for any damage they cause and may not be allowed to hire the field in the future. Some clubs or referees may choose to close specific grounds that Council have opened to prevent injury to players. Your club should be your first point of call to see if a game is on.
