A streetscapes upgrade is commencing in Artarmon March 2023 with completion expected mid 2024.

The aim of the project is to improve pedestrian safety and shopping precinct visual quality.

The works will be carried out under Council's Priority Improvement Program.

This project is a deliverable of the Artarmon Local Centre Public Domain Masterplan which develops a long term strategy on the western side of the railway line in Artarmon Local Centre.

February to March 2024

The Artarmon local centre streetscape upgrade project is progressing well and continues to be on target for completion by mid-2024.

A significant amount of work has been undertaken with some key completed works including the Village Green Park from north of the tunnel and south of the amenities, and a section of the footpath extension on the retail side between Francis Road and Broughton Road. Works between the pedestrian crossing and Francis Street are progressing with 80% complete.

The current stage of works, due to be completed within 4 to 6 weeks, weather permitting, include Broughton Road closure for drainage, road works and kerb extensions, construction of the retaining wall to terrace seating area at the Village Green, installation of traffic lights and the construction of the amenities block.

 
January 2024

Works resumed on 8 January 2024 and include the continuation of footpath widening, paving, drainage and roadworks, construction of the retaining wall and terrace seating area, as well as installation of garden beds between the traffic lights and Broughton Road, on the retail side.

Broughton Street has been closed to traffic and variable message signs (VMS) are in place directing traffic south one way through Hampden Lane.

Work has also commenced on the amenities block, station side of Hampden Road. This stage of works will continue for a period of up to approximately three months.

 
December 2023 

Securing site fencing for the shutdown period between 21 December 2023 and 8 January 2024.

Parking is also being reinstated on Hampden Road, between Francis Street and Broughton Street and two-way traffic on Francis Street will be re-opened.

Works will resume on 8 January at the intersection of Broughton and Hampden Road between the traffic lights and current new works.

 
November 2023

Planting on the Village Green has been completed.

Jersey Road traffic lights have been approved by Transport for NSW and sandstone cladding on the retaining wall, and the paving from the lights to Frances Street on the retail side will be commencing soon.

Balustrading will be installed, and the designs for the pit located at the base of the stairs at the train station are being designed.

The current works are due to be completed by Christmas and once these current works are completed, works will commence on the retail side from the lights towards Broughton Street.

There will be a break with construction commencing 20 December and works will start again on 8 January 2024.

October 2023

Works undertaken in October include the final stages of the Village Green north of the entrance to the station and south of the lift to the railway station including paving, and electrical works.

Continuing works include works between Broughton Road and Jersey Road include footpath widening, drainage and roadworks, construction of the retaining wall and terrace seating area, and installation of garden beds and tree pit.

The planting of trees will commence in a few weeks.

September 2023 The Artarmon streetscapes upgrade saw the completion of Stages 5 and 7 between Jersey and Broughton Streets. These stages included paving, electrical works, kerb realignment, garden beds and tree pits. Work on the Village Green, shared path and the kerb extensions opposite the footpath continues to progress as part of Stages 9 and 10.
August 2023 The Artarmon streetscapes upgrade saw the construction of feature walls that will include feature lighting at a later stage, as well as footpath widening and street furniture being installed on the Artarmon Village green. In addition, sandstone kerbing is being restored, electrical pits and conduits put in place for pedestrian lighting and, of course, a lot more paving.
July 2023  The Artarmon streetscapes upgrade saw the clearing and levelling of Artarmon Village Green, soil cultivated with new topsoil installed ready for mass planting, blinding slab for paving poured, Heritage sandstone kerb re-laid with new concrete gutter and paving beginning at the corner of Hampden Road and Jersey Road.

The 3D imagery has been developed to give a pedestrian view of the Artarmon local centre look and feel once the streetscape upgrade works are complete.
