The Marriage of Figaro

Getting to the altar on time has never been more fraught with complications than in Mozart’s comic masterpiece The Marriage of Figaro. A frisky count, his neglected wife, the object of his desire and her cunning fiancé – plus a cadre of feverish characters – create and navigate chaos. All in the name of love.

Be transported to a fast-moving world of pranks, pitfalls and soaring arias in Pacific Opera’s exhilarating pocket-sized version of the beloved 18th century opera.

The action takes place in a single day of madcap twists and turns in the castle of Count Almaviva. Updated to the 1920s (think Downton Abbey) to amplify the story’s class divide and conflicts, The Marriage of Figaro features instantly-recognisable arias and a radiant score covering a vast array of emotions.

Premiered in Vienna in 1786, the ever-popular opera is an ideal showcase for emerging opera artists. Pared back to about an hour, the intimate production introduces fresh voices to bring the opera’s melodic inventiveness to vibrant life and give young talent the chance to shine.

The Marriage of Figaro achieves a winning combination of wit, wile and humanity. But for all its scheming and slapstick, love and honour save the day. Be seduced by the power of opera when Pacific Opera and Willoughby Symphony Orchestra draw out the drama’s revolutionary elements and the pulsing verve of Mozart’s sparkling score.
