An exhibition of print-based works by Christine Druitt-Preston.
This exhibition presents a series of works, informed by print and pattern, that explore domestic interiors and gardens. Druitt-Preston’s artmaking while printbased, acknowledges established themes and practices of earlier women artists and artisans by using machine stitching, embroidery and recycled domestic napery.
An interplay of opposites is explored in Druitt-Preston’s practice: interior and exterior, light and dark, positive and negative space. Merging the boundaries between the mediums of drawing, printmaking and painting, the artist provides a new lens through which to experience the familiar. The works shown in the exhibition are based on drawings made in Mudgee (north western NSW), Rosebank (northern rivers), the Margaret Olley Duxford Street Studio re-creation at Tweed Regional Gallery, and of her own home.
