Desert Colours 2021

Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri, Rock Holes West of the Olgas, acrylic on linen

Exhibition Dates: 3 – 21 March 2021

An exhibition of paintings by artists from remote desert communities, presented by Honey Ant Gallery

Presented by Honey Ant Gallery, this exhibition of paintings highlights the radiance of desert colours. Australia’s desert centre can appear an inhospitable environment. The quality of light can be glaring and harsh, and the terrain rugged and unforgiving. However, from this seemingly unpromising place an explosion of colour and creativity has emerged over the decades. The colour of sunrise, sunset, sand hills, low lying scrub, the changing seasons, flora and fauna—all are constant sources of inspiration for Indigenous artists painting their ancestral stories on to canvas. View masterpieces by both emerging and leading artists, including Ningura Napurrula, Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri, Kudditji Kngwarreye and Minnie Pwerle, as well as many exceptional works by the artists of Papunya Tjupi Arts.
