Hold Everything Dear More Than Ever

Michelle-Belgiorno-Song-Tree-2019-2021-cotton-embroidery-thread-and-twigs

Exhibition Dates: 16 June - 4 July 2021

Exhibition closed on 26 June 2021 due to current COVID-19 NSW Public Health Orders.

An exhibition of installation, assemblage, painting and mixed media presented by eight artists.

This exhibition reflects on the concept of change through the work of eight artists: Michelle Belgiorno, Deborah Burdett, Mandy Burgess, Michelle Connolly, Renuka Fernando, Tilly Lees, Jo Meisner and Ro Murray. Themes of grief, restoration and memory are explored through different mediums, including installation, assemblage and mixed media.

Belgiorno presents a community interactive installation of stitched childhood memories. Burdett’s work focusses on the restorative power of craft with assemblages made from fabric and found objects. Burgess’ mixed media art contemplates the idea of enfolding and protection, while Connolly navigates her subconscious through play to construct painted figures. Fernando explores the transformative value of grief through the use of seedlings, which grow into a new life as an installation. Lees’ work reflects on self evaluation, incorporating handwritten personal notes. Murray’s print installation examines the restorative connection with the environment.

The artists wish to acknowledge the passing of their friend and fellow artist, Jo Meisner. Some of her artworks will be included in this exhibition. “Belonging is central to how we define who we are. It is our connection to social groups and society as a whole that is most important in constructing this sense of identity. This is a fundamental aspect of what I feel it is to be human.” Jo Meisner (1954-2019)
