Buz Art Loft

Michael Buzinskas

My name is Michael Buzinskas and I am thirty one years old. I was first introduced to painting through art therapy at The Cottage in the Park, Wahroonga. Painting abstracts just seemed to 'catch my eye' and I felt drawn to exploring this style.

Early 2016, I was introduced to Boonah Art for people with disabilities, a service of Catholic Care in the Diocese of Broken Bay, Sydney. The staff and clients are my friends and my Boonah family keeps me connected with community. I completed one painting during my first year, called Galorium which proudly hangs in my family home. Since 2017, I have learnt a lot about time management and my growing love of art took me from one session per week at Boonah to three. The positive atmosphere at Boonah inspires me to be creative and helps keep my mental health on track. Painting allows me to think freely, offers an escape from my difficulties and provides relaxation away from the complexities of my mind. Painting helps my true self to emerge!

I predominantly paint with acrylics, sometimes adding fine pen or permanent marker when working with mixed media. How I am feeling, when painting, reflects the degree of complexity of the artwork. I want the use of colour to be as visually bold as possible. The objective of my art is all about the arrangement of colours and lines that flow well together, shapes within shapes, patterns and dots. My art is a visual experience, and when completed, I like choosing interesting names for my artworks, usually titled according to what each work vaguely looks like to me.

I have exhibited paintings at Boonah, The Kings School Annual Art Show, and Willoughby and Ku-ring-gai Councils.

Candied Crevice best illustrates the abstract nature of Michael's artwork. Michael feels comfortable and capable with the freedom and creative control that is limitless and subjective in this style. The painting resembles rock candy and the closeness of the lines creates a crevice effect, demonstrating the use of many acrylic colours mixed together, chosen for their therapeutic benefit to the artist. The flow of lines, shapes within shapes and the arrangement of colours creates the visual experience that Michael wants to project as an aesthetically appealing image to the onlooker.
