Join Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney and Councillors of Willoughby City in celebrating Australia Day at The Concourse.

Welcome our new citizens to Willoughby, hear a keynote speech from our Australia Day ambassador and congratulate our Australia Day award winners, including the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and the Community and Cultural Building Award.

Performances by the Willoughby Band and a local choir.

Do you know someone that’s been giving their time and energy to improve the community and the people of Willoughby? If so, nominate them for an award in one of the following categories

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community and Cultural Building
  • Environmental Citizen of the Year

    Nominations close at 5pm, Friday 4 December 2020

    • Nominees must be an Australian Citizen, 
    • Live, work or attend school in Willoughby, or be part of a local organisation, 
    • Be aged 16 – 25 years on 26 January 2021 (Young Citizen of the Year Award only).
    • Consideration of retired politicians and officers for work in addition to their official duties only. Sitting State and Federal politicians and current Vice-regal officers are not eligible.
    • No self-nomination will be accepted.
    • Only one nominee, or joint nominees, will be accepted from each organisation or group who wishes to nominate.
    • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
    • The judging panel reserves the right to withdraw an award if further information or the recipient’s conduct draws the Awards into disrepute.

    All nominees will be considered for the Citizen of the Year Award. 

    Documents required

    • High resolution photograph of the nominee  
    • Relevant supporting material, including references and media articles of nominee


    • The benefit to the community from the nominee’s service or contribution
    • Whether the nominee has had to overcome any particular difficulties or hurdles
    • Whether the nominee worked as part of a team and their role within the team
    • Other outstanding achievements by the nominee
    • Other recognition of the nominee’s contribution or work
    • Whether the nominee has had assistance from Council, government or other organisations


    The awards will be presented on Australia Day, Tuesday 26 January 2021 at The Concourse, Chatswood.  Formal invitations will be provided to award winners and those who nominated them.
