Willoughby City Council is currently developing a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in collaboration with Reconciliation Australia, the lead body for Reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation: Reconciliation is about strengthening the relationships between First Nations People and the wider community, for the benefit of all of us as Australians.
Council’s RAP will be a strategic document that will provide a framework for inclusion as well as contributing towards local and national reconciliation. The RAP will act as a guide, preparing our organisation for future reconciliation initiatives.
During the development of our RAP, we will inform, involve, consult and collaborate with our community through Willoughby City Council website, social media platforms, media releases, flyers and workshops.
We will consult with our community through information sessions, surveys and events. We will hold workshops to collaborate with stakeholders and community members including young people. At each stage of the development of the RAP, we will keep our community informed.
We encourage involvement and collaboration of First Nations community members, and other stakeholders in the process of development of RAP.
The RAP development plan will have a number of phases with a number of opportunities to hear feedback and ideas from our community.
The consultation is an opportunity for the community to share their ideas on how we can acknowledge and promote the Gamaragal history, culture and protocols of country and First Nations People who live within the area.
Community consultation workshops for young people:
We are running community consultation workshops with our community members and stakeholders for the development of our RAP. The workshops will be facilitated by Susan Moylan Coombs. Susan has extensive experience working with First Nations communities nationally, with specific expertise in community consultation, empowerment and the facilitation of voice and storytelling.
Susan uses her expertise to work with mainstream organisations and communities in the provision of cultural competency and immersion sessions as well as social planning processes.
Young People are invited to attend the workshop.
