How artists have used humour throughout art history.

A look at how artists have used humour or irony throughout the history of European Art. This Zoom talk will explore the satirical elements contained within artworks from past eras, and the more recent and contemporary approaches that employ comedy and irony. Satirical devices have allowed artists to raise awareness or redirect perceptions of serious issues. Twentieth century artists broke with traditions, elevating the role of playful or comedic art within critical cultural discourse. With the world currently facing many struggles, the role of light relief and the artistic tools to challenge, are more important than ever.

This talk will also include a recommended reading list of books available at Chatswood Library for those who would like more information on the subject.
