Poetry Workshop

Poetry, like art and music, is one of the crafts through which gifted writers have uncovered the beauty and richness which is in our world, without denying the grief and pain we all have to deal with.

It is part psychology, part philosophy, and importantly, rich entertainment.

Considering the stressing challenges we have faced in the past few years, we think it could help to revisit this rich heritage we have to draw on.

There is an abundance of accessible, short but rich and skillful poems master poets have left us. We will revisit these and consider ways in which we can 'unpack' a poem for greater enjoyment.

People sometimes want to put their observations into a poem so we will look and consider some of the more accessible verse forms and invite you to try your hand. Bring along a simple exercise book and a pen with you!

(To ensure you can come prepared, once you have enrolled you will be emailed some material that you can work on beforehand. After the workshop, we will hold a shorter meeting to get feedback and to allow people to arrange follow up groups.)
