Environment levy

Council's environment levy, known as e.restore, is a program set up to deliver our environmental initiatives and priorities as outlined in Our Green City Plan 2028. The goals in this plan include:

  • reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions
  • promoting sustainable lifestyles and practices
  • enhancing, protecting and respecting waterways, bushland, nature, wildlife and ecological systems
  • reducing energy, water and resource waste and encouraging reuse and recycling

All the environmental and sustainability projects reflect Council's ongoing commitment to taking action to mitigate climate change and continuing to restore and preserve our local natural environment.

The environment levy was first introduced in July 2000 to address the issue of our local natural environment being degraded and needing restoration. Strong community support saw the program extended for a second term from 2003 until 2008.

From July 2008 a third endorsement of the levy from the community saw the continuation of the funding for local environmental works while introducing a new focus by the community on responding to climate change.
