Willoughby City Council is proud to support Ride to School Day, a National Initiative to encourage more students and their families to walk, cycle or scooter to school.

Willoughby City Mayor Tanya Taylor said the initiative is a great way to get active and reduce traffic in and around our school zones.

'Council encourages all schools in the Willoughby Local area to participate in this event.' Mayor Taylor said.

In addition to supporting Ride2School day, Willoughby City Council and Willoughby Public School are developing the Resilient Willoughby Schools Active Travel Pilot Project, in collaboration with Bicycle Network, Observatory Hill Environmental Education Centre and Schools Infrastructure NSW. Year 6 students have been involved in identifying four ‘active paths’ to school to encourage more students and their families to walk, cycle or scooter to school.

"The Willoughby Public School community has embraced this exciting initiative and our plan is to mark the ‘active paths’ with stencils and launch a school ‘active map’ in the middle of the year. We hope to make a lasting impact encouraging everyone to walk or ride where possible." Mayor Taylor said.

Make a difference on Friday 24 March 2023 and ride, walk, scoot, or skate to school for National Ride2School Day.

Ride to school is a nationwide program that enables students to get physically active on their journey to school. For more information go to the Bicycle Network website.
