The former Northbridge Bowling Club has been transformed into an important community venue for local Willoughby residents.

Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney will officially open the new Warner’s Park Community Centre on Saturday 19 June at 10am as part of a free community open day.

The history of the bowling club dates back to its opening in 1951. Due to low member numbers, it was closed in 2015 and handed back to the care and control of Council.

“The centre has been redesigned and repurposed as an important facility for the whole community,” Mayor Giles-Gidney said.

Works to upgrade the ground floor of the building into a multipurpose community space including a large auditorium plus a smaller meeting room, commercial kitchen, storage and accessible toilets are now complete.

Running from 10am – 1pm, the open day will celebrate the opening of the re-furbished centre and launch the new activities program.

“The newly opened building will be an exciting addition to the community facilities available to those living, working in and visiting our city,” Mayor Giles-Gidney said.

Activities will include tours of the new facilities, a display of the draft Warners Park Masterplan, plant giveaways, food, games, dance performances and children’s activities including face painting.

Local residents, the wider community and local community organisations are invited to attend.
