Willoughby City Council endorsed a proposal for a mixed use residential and commercial development in the Chatswood featuring two 25 and 20 storey residential towers with a two storey retail podium.

The 4219 square metre site at 9-11 Nelson Street is bounded by Gordon Avenue, Frank Channon Walk, a small park and Nelson Street, within the existing Chatswood CBD.

The Planning Proposal seeks to change the zoning from Medium Density Residential R3 to B4 Mixed Use, increase the height limitations to 90 metres and increase the floor space ratio to 6:1. The concept plans show 258 residential apartments as well as commercial floorspace.

The Council agreed that the proposal was consistent with the strategic objectives of the Chatswood CBD Planning and Urban Design Strategy 2036.

Council planners said that the environmental impacts were acceptable and the proposal should proceed to public exhibition subject to a number of provisions including clauses to attract pedestrians, protect public space in Chatswood from overshadowing and a reduction in sunlight.

The proposal addresses Council’s wishes to see the Chatswood CBD grow with mixed residential and commercial development around a fully commercial core.
