Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor will join hundreds of community members at the annual National Tree Day event on Sunday 31 July at Mowbray Park, Chatswood.

“This annual event provides an opportunity for the community to connect with nature and other locals, while getting their hands dirty to green their local environment,” said Mayor Taylor.

National Tree Day is a family-friendly event with plenty of ways for everyone to get involved, from planting and watering new vegetation, learning about baby beetles in our environment, discovering the local flora on a guided bushwalk or collecting plants and mulch to take home.

The planting activity will take place between 10am - 12pm at the Rotary Athletics Field, Mowbray Road. Participants will need to bring drinking water and wear a hat, covered shoes, long sleeved shirt, long pants and own gloves. Gardening tools and watering cans will be provided.

Children can learn about beetles in our environment with a Beetle Baby Rescue activity.

Council will give away free native plants and mulch between 10am - 2pm, and around 600 plants expected to be taken home and planted by residents after the event.

In celebration of Plastic Free July, the event will also be an opportunity to bring along unwanted plastic plant pots for re-use or recycling.
