An opportunity to deliver upgraded cycling infrastructure that links Willoughby City suburbs to North Sydney and Milsons Point has been revealed in an updated Transport NSW plan.

Transport NSW last month released its Strategic Cycleway Corridors Eastern Harbour City Overview program update and identified five projects as immediate opportunities.

One of the proposed connections would see St Leonards and Artarmon form part of the Sydney CBD to Chatswood Cycleway Corridor to boost safety and ensure local cycling infrastructure meets the needs of forecast growth in the North Shore.

Another immediate opportunity identified is the North Sydney Connections project with a focus between Milson’s Point, North Sydney and St Leonards to improve access to Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Willoughby City Council has approved the detailed design for the St Leonards and Artarmon connection in anticipation for potential funding support under the Get NSW Active program.

Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor said increasing opportunities for residents to adopt more environmentally-friendly and active modes of transport was consistent with community’s vision for Willoughby to be a City that is green and liveable.

“We are working in partnership with Transport for NSW to progress the St Leonards and Artarmon connections. This safer Cycleway link will provide vital infrastructure that can be used for the daily commute or leisure to enhance the liveability and sustainability of our city.

“Not only are there health benefits to cycling, but it is an effective way to avoid congestion on our roads and save on transport costs.”
