Following the success of its 2021 pilot program, Willoughby City Council voted to launch Chatswood Culture Bites as its flagship cultural program for 2022 at last night’s Council Meeting (2 August).

Chatswood Culture Bites, a changing program of innovative cultural activities at The Concourse and Chatswood CBD, was piloted from January to June 2021 and featured performances, events and activities including the Lunar New Year comedy festival, pocket operas, K-Pop, Aerial acrobatics, projections, light art and more.

Introduced as an alternative to Vivid Sydney at Chatswood, which could not take place this year due to a change in Vivid Sydney’s usual May schedule, Chatswood Culture Bites proved its worth, delivering a critically acclaimed schedule of high quality cultural products, sustained economic benefits and audience development opportunities.

Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney said the benefits reaped from the trial demonstrated that by continuing with Culture Bites, Council could engage with more people and raise more revenue.

“2021 has been a very difficult time for the arts. I’m proud that Willoughby City Council has been bold in continuing to support and deliver arts and culture on the North Shore while stimulating economic recovery. I’m looking forward to seeing what 2022 has to offer,” Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney said.

“I’m so excited for this new chapter of creative arts in Chatswood. Our new program offers something new and fresh, reflecting Chatswood’s unique cultural identity,”

“Chatswood is where people of all ages and backgrounds converge to create something special and I’m proud that our 2021 Culture Bites program appropriately demonstrated our objectives in what we want to deliver for Chatswood and beyond – innovative, quality, accessible culture that’s lots of fun.”

The 2022 program Culture Bites program will be announced late 2021. Read more about the program here.
