New, tougher restrictions have been announced by the NSW Government in a response to the growing number of COVID cases circulating in the community. These challenging new restrictions impact us all. They have been introduced in order to keep us safe, and we therefore once again ask for your support in following the rules and helping to stop the spread of the highly transmissible Delta strain.

Please do not leave the house unless it’s for an essential reason. Remember to carry a mask and ID with you and limit your contact with people you do not live with. Shop online where possible and work from home if you can.

Council remains here to support you, keeping abreast of and responding to new restrictions in order to keep everyone safe.

The new restrictions across Greater Sydney include

People from the three LGA’s of Fairfield, Liverpool and Canterbury-Bankstown cannot leave their LGA for work or otherwise until 30 July (except health care and emergency services workers).

Only critical retail stores can remain open (supermarkets, butchers, grocers and pharmacists). Other retail must only be click-and-collect or takeaway. Banks, hardware and petrol stations will also be open.

Car-pooling is not permitted in any area of Greater Sydney until 30 July, unless it’s required for you to perform essential work.

All construction, large or small, including maintenance work and cleaning, must be closed down from 12:01am Monday until midnight on 30 July. (Provisions are being made for sites that cannot be secured in that time.)

From 12:01am all employers must allow employees to work from home if they are able to do so.

Council projects and works

In line with public health orders, all non essential works on Council projects will be paused and sites made safe and secure.

Business support

The closure of non essential retail will have a major impact on our business community. The NSW Government have announced a range of support packages and grants to help.

Please continue to support our local businesses when making essential purchases and use your Dine and Discover vouchers when buying take away food.
Council is keenly aware of the hardship and stress that the new restrictions will cause and is looking at ways to support businesses. More information will be announced this week.
