Shorelink Library Network

About Shorelink

The Shorelink Library network was previously made up of the five Lower North Shore Council Libraries of Lane Cove, Manly, Mosman, Stanton (North Sydney) and Willoughby.

Willoughby Library formally withdrew from the Shorelink network at the end of November 2017. Willoughby Library members continue to have access to the collections of the Willoughby Library branch network of Chatswood, Artarmon, Castle Cove, Naremburn, Northbridge and West Chatswood libraries.

Willoughby Library members may also continue to access the collections of the remaining Shorelink libraries by becoming a member at one of those libraries or by requesting items through Willoughby Library’s Inter-Library Loan service.

Willoughby City Library withdrawal from Shorelink

Willoughby Library formally withdrew from Shorelink at the end of November 2017. Please see our information page for how the changes may affect you.

Why did Willoughby Council choose to withdraw from Shorelink?

The Shorelink Consortium is a costly way for Willoughby to provide library services that do not cater for the specific needs of the Willoughby community. Willoughby Council chose to withdraw from Shorelink in order to deliver library services tailored specifically to the needs of the Willoughby community. The decision followed careful consideration and independent studies into the future of libraries.

When will the changes come into effect?

Library members will have access to the Shorelink network until late November 2017.

How can I borrow from libraries outside of Willoughby?

Library members will continue to have access to collections from around Australia through Willoughby Library’s Inter–Library Loan Service. Library members will also continue to have access to eBook services through our subscriptions.

Will there be changes to services?

Customers will no longer be able to return Willoughby Library items to other Shorelink libraries and vice-versa. Members of other Shorelink libraries will need to join Willoughby Library to access our collection.

How will library customers benefit from the withdrawal?

Willoughby Council will have more control over how the library is managed. This means services and programs can be tailored to the Willoughby community.

How will I find out about changes?

We will keep you informed of any changes that may affect you. Information will be available at our libraries, on Council’s website or by phone and email.
