Car Share & Green Vehicles

Willoughby City Council promotes sustainable transport and is working towards creating a liveable city where car dependency is reduced and the city is easy to get around by walking, cycling and public transport.

If you do drive, learn more about driving efficiently to reduce costs, wear and tear on your vehicle and greenhouse gas emissions.

Car Share

Car sharing is an initiative where you sign up for 24/7 access to a car without the hassles and expense of owning a car or using traditional car hire. Car sharing is cheaper and puts less pressure on parking and traffic congestion than owning a car, and is a great way to help the environment. Willoughby Council and car share providers have worked to establish a local program with car share spaces currently set up in Chatswood, Artarmon and St Leonards, with new spaces being added as demand increases.

Carpooling is simply when two or more people travel together in one car. It is an easy and convenient means of travel for people who have limited access to alternative modes of transport and want to be more environmentally friendly.   You can reduce greenhouse emissions, improve air quality, use transit lanes, save money on petrol, parking and maintenance.

You may like to start car pooling with someone you know - a friend, neighbour or another family at your school. Alternatively, you can match yourself with others via one of the many car pooling websites available.

Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations

Electric Vehicle Charging Station at Solar farm

Council and Westfield have installed electric vehicle charging stations available for free use, powered by the Council’s 166kW Solar Farm. There are three charging spaces available on the rooftop of Westfield car park – a dual port ChargePoint charger that supplies level 2 30A power (this can charge a ‘Leaf’) and another 40A charger supplied by ‘Tesla’.

Council also has other car charging facilities at its new car park at 83 Albert Avenue.
