Family Day Care
“Family day care is a wonderful, wonderful service with highly trained educators. We can't rate it highly enough. We love the fact that the kids are catered for so well and are in an intimate environment where they get lots of one on one attention. We feel it’s more like an extension of our family than a day care facility. The council is doing a great service to the community providing these services”. Cindy Brooks

The service is rated as exceeding the National Quality Standard.
Benefits of Family Day Care
Our Family Day Care scheme has been running for 30 years and offers small group care in a safe and stimulating family home with a maximum of four children who do not attend school.
It is an environment where children quickly feel secure. Educators have a range of qualifications, skills and experience and participate in ongoing training. Families can be matched with educators tailored to their needs and preferences according to cultural backgrounds, skills and interests.
Willoughby City Council’s qualified early childhood staff visit the educators’ homes on a regular basis to assess and monitor the care and offer support services to educators.
Our Family Day Care Scheme is licensed through the Department of Education under the Education and Care Services National Regulation and has been rated as Exceeding under the National Quality Standard. Eligible families have access to government child care subsidy.
Our educators come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures to meet the needs of the families in our local community. They have formal qualifications in Early Childhood, and many have years of experience working with young children.
There is a stringent screening and induction process to ensure that educators have the skills and knowledge to provide a quality service. At a minimum, educators must have a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, must have passed the relevant police and Working with Children checks, be fully insured and have a current first aid certificate (HLTAID004). Their home must comply with the safety requirements of the National Regulation.
Having one consistent educator allows families to form a strong bond and provides educators with the opportunity to tailor their programs to the needs of each child.
Educators operate under the same national regulations and educational frameworks as other forms of approved childcare (the Education and Care National Regulations (2017) and the National Quality Framework (2018). All educators are formally trained in early childhood and are passionate about young children. They develop individual, documented programs for each child with the guidance of qualified staff for each child.
Willoughby City Council Staff
The Willoughby City Council Family Day Care Co-ordination Unit is a friendly team with a range of qualifications, including Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and Diploma in Children's Services.
The team supervises the selection of educators and the placement of children. It offers training programs and support to educators to ensure they are complying with the National Regulation and National Quality Standard providing the best quality care possible. The team also provides support and advice to families.
As self employed small business operators, each educator sets their fees and conditions. Families can expect to pay approximately $100 to $130 per day. Fees may be reduced if families are eligible for Child Care Subsidy.
