Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM opens the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra 2019 season with GALA, a dazzling concert celebrating the music of Vienna’s iconic opera house.

Internationally renowned, Dr Nicholas Milton has worked with some of Europe’s finest orchestras and has conducted dozens of performances in the Austrian capital’s famous opera house, making him superbly qualified to take you on this unique musical excursion.

Bathe in the sumptuous melody and dance in delight (from the safety of your seat) as the orchestra performs waltzes, polkas and quadrilles by Johann Strauss including his unforgettable Blue Danube Waltz and Ravel’s La Valse.

Phenomenal singers from Sydney’s Pacific Opera will present selections from the Strauss’ classic Viennese operetta, Die Fledermaus, as well as excerpts from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Lehar’s The Merry Widow.

A true spectacle, the concert will also feature to the magnificent Willoughby Symphony Choir under the direction of Chorus Master Peter Ellis.

GALA is the opening concert of Willoughby Symphony Orchestra’s 2019 Subscription Series Rhapsodic Journey, a six concert program that will take you on a magical odyssey including a mix of new compositions and favourites.  Every year it sells out, so don’t miss the opportunity to experience the glitz and glamour of this exciting gala event.
