Turn back time: Willoughby City 2019 Heritage Festival
Turn back time at Willoughby City Council’s 2019 Heritage Festival, featuring more than ten unique events and activities from 18 April to 19 May 2019.
Sponsored by Willoughby City Council and supported by community organisations and businesses, the 2019 program runs during the Australian Heritage Festival and includes free and affordable tours, exhibitions, community events and informative talks.
A highlight of the program is Pub Tales on Thursday 25 April. Visit four of Willoughby’s oldest pubs and learn about their history past and present - all whilst tasting a selection of their finest ales.
Feel your spine tingle and your hairs stand on end as you travel back in time to the harsh realities of life in William Gore’s convict farm on the history tour When Blood is Thicker than Water – the Hidden History of Sydney’s North Shore. Running Saturday evenings, this tour isn’t for the faint hearted.
From billy tea to bubble tea experience a brief food history tour of Willoughby with Pimp my Plate Food Tours on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Walk the streets of Chatswood and celebrate some of the early residents and merchants who helped created Chatswood’s diverse foodscape.
Bring the whole family to the Rotary Club of Northbridge’s 31 year anniversary community fireworks. There will be rides, face-painting, balloon animals, food and entertainment with all proceeds donated to charity. A yearly favourite this exciting firework show is not to be missed.
“Willoughby City’s rich and fascinating history is on show for all to experience during this year’s Heritage Festival”, said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney. “From ghost tours to food tours the exciting program of unique events is bigger and better than ever” she said.
