Shop your way into the Lunar New Year at the Chatswood Year of the Pig Festival
As another Lunar New Year comes around this February, people across the world will be letting go of the old and welcoming in the new by purchasing new clothes, food, homewares and more in preparation for the New Year. With the inaugural Chatswood Year of the Pig Festival 2019 arriving in Sydney this summer from the 29th of January to 19th of February 2019, it’s the perfect opportunity for Sydneysiders to join in the festive traditions celebrated by so many already.
One of the festival’s main attractions, the Golden Market (29th January – 8th February), is a must-visit shopping bazaar offering a range of unique items and keepsakes in-theme with the Lunar New Year. More exciting than a usual Sydney shopping experience, the Golden Market offers a shopping journey through multiple destinations across Asia. It will also offer tasty food and lively entertainment. Visitors are encouraged to check the full schedule online to make the most of the festivals activities.
Here’s five reasons why Sydneysiders should add a shopping visit to the Chatswood Year of the Pig Festival to their diary:
1. Zodiac styling displays to give you inspiration for a new look in 2019.
Discover a curated ‘shopping guide’ based on the Chinese Zodiac to inspire fashion choices for the Lunar New Year at Westfield Chatswood. The display will feature 12 Chinese Zodiac animals with suggested fashion style advice based on their characteristics and fortune outlook for 2019. New Year, new style, new experiences, new you!
2. Discover unique homewares and decorations to bring your home good Feng Shui.
Chatswood Mall will be transformed into a replica end-of-year market commonly found in cities across Asia where it is customary to buy new clothes and wares in celebration of the New Year. The Golden Market will feature over 20 unique stallholders selling food, decorations, toys, flowers and clothes. Browse the market and find your favourite pieces to take home or gift to family and friends. Keep in mind how your chosen treasures can bring you good Feng Shui in the New Year.
3. Make New Year memories at insta-worthy attractions.
Throughout the Golden Market, shoppers will find creative displays and sights to see such as the festival’s giant inflatable pig sculptures. The larger than life pigs transform from day to evening as they light up the Mall becoming a beacon of the Festival. Nearby, find a large Victoria Harbour backdrop that will transport visitors from Chatswood to the heart of Hong Kong. Shoppers can share their photos for others to see with the hashtag #chatswoodlny.
4. Find delicious food and flavour combinations only Asian cuisines can offer.
Hungry shoppers will find an array of cuisines to choose from at the Golden Market to keep them fuelled as they enjoy browsing the stalls. Taste buds will surely be satisfied by the delicious flavour combinations on offer, with Japanese, Thai, Singapore, Malaysian, and Taiwanese cuisines available, to name just a few.
5. It’s on for a limited time and is filled with extra entertainment.
You won’t be able to find a curation of such festive items in front of you again until 2020, so visit Chatswood while the festival is on to invest in and stock up on enough goodies to last the whole year. Not only is the limited-time market bazaar a treasure chest of unique items, it will also be a hive of entertainment for the whole family. Kids and adults can discover lively musicians and daily activities throughout the market if they need to take a break from the shopping. Activities include Korean Day, K-Pop Night, Chinese Opera, Children’s Day, comedy with comedian Lee Ton and Pictorial Calligraphy.
