It’s not the destination, it’s the journey…
21 August 2018
The Willoughby Symphony Orchestra proudly presents the 2019 Subscription Series, Rhapsodic Journey, a six concert program that will take you on a magical odyssey including a mix of new compositions and favourites.
Led since 2001 by the highly esteemed Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM, the Willoughby Symphony is renowned for their incredible aptitude across the entire symphonic repertoire, performing with galvanizing engagement and dynamism.
In addition to the Subscription Series, the Willoughby Symphony will also present two children’s concerts, Mini Maestros and Crowns and Tiaras, as well as the ever-popular Last Night of the Proms and beloved family concert The Magic of Christmas. For contemporary enthusiasts the program includes a Tribute to George Michael as well as And Love Will Steer the Stars, taking a journey through music’s golden year 1969.
In 2019, the Willoughby Symphony proudly welcomes award winning composer, Kate Moore as Composer-In-Residence. Kate is an Australian-Dutch musician and composer. Kate’s works have been performed globally including at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, New York’s Carnegie Hall and Australia’s Sydney Opera House. We are proud to premier two of Kate’s major new pieces, including a Piano Concerto specifically commissioned by the Willoughby Symphony.
“On stage in our ravishing Concert Hall at The Concourse, the ardently passionate instrumentalists of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra illuminate their elation in music making with vibrant commitment,” Dr Nicholas Milton AM said. “Our 2019 Season is a magical odyssey that promises many transcendent and inexpressibly beautiful moments, and we will marvel with you at sublime mysteries that will unfold in the music,” he said.
