Composers in Exile
19 September 2018
Wednesday 17 October, 12pm
The Concourse Concert Hall
Opera star Australian baritone Peter Coleman-Wright AO and the four virtuoso saxophonists of the Nexas Quartet join international flautist Jane Rutter to perform Composers in Exile. This theatrical concert will feature thrilling adaptations of cabaret works by composers from the Weimar Era to the Second World War.
Dressed as composers Weill, Eisler, Schreker, Korngold, Stolz, with Jane Rutter as Lotte Lenya, the musicians talk and play in character about life during these turbulent times when many of Germany’s great Jewish composers were forced to flee.
Recognised as a major lunchtime musical event, the 2018 Live at Lunch Season includes a musical journey through Paris and a feast of sacred songs including Ave Maria.
Live at Lunch Artistic Director Jane Rutter is a classical music trailblazer, renowned for her mastery of the French flute style. In 2016, Jane was awarded the prestigious French Medal, Chevalière de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres in recognition of her significant contributions to Arts and Literature.
