The Concourse Urban Screen
409 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood

Sit back with some popcorn and settle in for an evening of outstanding short films at the Willoughby Shorts Film Festival - Sydney’s fastest growing student film festival – from 6pm, Friday 27 October at The Concourse, Chatswood.

Open to students 12 - 25 years, Willoughby Shorts encourages young filmmakers to express themselves creatively through short films of 10 minutes or less, and to showcase their talents in a public forum.

The best entries from this year’s competition will be screened on the Urban Screen on The Concourse, with awards presented for best animation, documentary, narrative short and overall best film, and a prize pool on offer of $4,000.

Judges for the Willoughby Shorts Film Festival 2017 are Linda Yung – producer, editor camera operator and photographer; James Mclurcan - Sydney-based writer, actor and director; and Tilmann Schneider - Art Director at The Electric Canvas, an award-winning company based in Chatswood that oversaw the creative direction and content production for Vivid Sydney at Chatswood in 2016 and 2017.

Attendees at the screening and awards ceremony can enjoy free popcorn and have their photo taken on the red carpet on arrival. Public seating and blankets will be provided.

“The Willoughby Shorts Film Festival highlights the incredible skill and talent of student filmmakers from all over Sydney, offering well-deserved recognition and creating career development opportunities for those with filmmaker aspirations,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney.

Dan May, President of Blackmagic, a Willoughby Shorts Prize Sponsor for 2017, said, “We are honoured to be sponsoring the Willoughby Shorts Film Festival to support young Aussie creatives and filmmakers. With the latest film making technology allowing Hollywood level quality films to anyone with a vision, it is going to be amazing to see what these young filmmakers can create".
