Willoughby Council partners with Service NSW in support of small business

Willoughby Council has partnered with Service NSW as part of the Easy to do Business program, which aims to benefit small businesses within the Willoughby Local Government area by cutting through the red tape. 

A joint initiative between the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Customer Service Commissioner, the Office of NSW Small Business Commissioner and Service NSW, the Easy to do Business program aims to make opening or expanding a small business easier by streamlining procedures for owners that currently require them to deal with 13 agencies and complete 48 forms in a process that can take up to 18 months.

As part of the program, Service NSW provides a digital platform with information on what is required by business owners from all the approval authorities, including Council, a single digital form that replaces the existing 48 different forms, and a business concierge service that offers support throughout the process.

Since the program’s trial at the City of Parramatta Council in 2016, the program has demonstrated excellent results and the time to open a new business has been reduced to less than 90 days.

“The Easy to do Business program supports Council’s continued focus on business improvement in Willoughby and will greatly benefit our community by demystifying processes for new business owners and facilitate business and employment growth in our local area,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney.
