Live at Lunch presents "The Painted Piano & The Golden Flute"

14 August 2017

Wednesday 13 September, 12pm
The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood

Two great pianists on two grand pianos will fuse jazz and classical music in The Painted Piano & The Golden Flute, the fourth concert of popular Live at Lunch concert series at The Concourse.

Simon Tedeschi and Kevin Hunt will join forces on stage to perform irresistible works centred around Hunt’s own Painted Piano Suite, as well as beloved classics by Bach, Debussy, Ellington, Monk, Oscar Peterson and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

In a special addition to the concert, audience members will have the chance to see the Stuart & Sons Piano panels. Painted by students from the Paakantji and Ngiyampaa language groups from the Menindee Central School in far west NSW, students painted the piano panels and participated in Kevin Hunt’s composition of the Painted Piano Blues.

As well as performing, Kevin teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has recently completed his PhD entitled ‘Perceptions of the Stuart & Sons piano’. This research has instigated the annual OUR MUSIC Indigenous music program to encourage continued collaborations between Sydney’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous musicians.

Acclaimed pianist Simon Tedeschi is often described by respected critics and musical peers as one of the finest artists in the world. A child prodigy, Simon first performed at age 9 in the Sydney Opera House and is the recipient of many awards including the Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year and a Centenary of Federation Medal by the Prime Minister of Australia.

The 2017 Live at Lunch Season is a collection of brilliant masterworks which pay homage to the Australian Dreamtime, the moon, lullabies and Broadway Classics, featuring some of the best Australian performers including opera superstar, Teddy Tahu-Rhodes, Aboriginal didgeridoo player Blak Douglas, piano virtuoso Simon Tedeschi and many more.

Join Jane and her guest artists for lunch after each concert at Terrazza Restaurant on The Concourse. Contact the Box Office on 9411 8144 to purchase a lunch package.
