Councillor Rutherford received Special Achievement Award at the 2017 Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government

Willoughby Councillor, Judith Rutherford has received a prestigious Ministerial Award in honour of her outstanding service to the community, being presented with the Special Achievement Award at the 2017 Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government, held at NSW Parliament House.

Councillor Rutherford has served on Willoughby Council for more than 20 years. She was first elected to in 1995 and served as Deputy Mayor from 1997 to 1999. Prior to her election she was President of the Federation of Willoughby Progress Associations.

Councillor Rutherford is an active member of the Board of VisAsia, the Australian Institute of Asian Culture and Visual Arts, established to promote the appreciation of Asian visual arts and culture through exhibitions, events and education. Additionally, she has taken an active civic leadership role in cultural events in Willoughby including the Emerge Festival (formerly Willoughby Spring Festival).

Councillor Rutherford has been actively involved with Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Association, an allied health profession that systematically applies the elements of music to impact positive health outcomes.

In the 2010 Australian Day Honours she was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the community through the promotion of Asian arts and culture, the advancement of clinical music therapy and through local government.

“This award is wonderful acknowledgment of Councillor Rutherford’s contribution to both ours and the broader community as a woman in Local Government. Councillor Rutherford has served on many different committees of Council and her commitment to our multicultural community and cultural events has always been outstanding,” said Willoughby Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney.
