The City of Willoughby has elected its Council for the next three years returning Gail Giles-Gidney as Willoughby’s 51st Mayor.

Mayor Gail was first elected as a Councillor for Sailors Bay Ward in 2009, became Deputy Mayor in 2013, and was elected Mayor of Willoughby City Council in April 2014.

Since taking office, Mayor Gail has sought to promote Chatswood as an economic and cultural hub. Prior to being elected to Council, Gail was President of the Wenona Parents’ Association and Vice President of NSW Parents’ Council. She was NSW Parents Council representative at SHORE for 12 years. She holds a Bachelor of Business degree from UTS, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and worked with high profile Australian financial services organisations as a project manager.

A mix of familiar and new faces make up the remaining 12 seats on Council with Councillors Elect Christine Tuon, Denis Fernandez, Brendon Zhu and Craig Campbell entering their first term.

Councillors Elect Angelo Rozos, Wendy Norton, Judith Rutherford, Stuart Coppock, Nic Wright, Hugh Eriksson, Tony Mustaca and Lynne Saville will return to the floor.

Willoughby City Council General Manager Debra Just congratulated all candidates on the manner of which they ran an enthusiastic election campaign and hoped those who were not elected continue to participate in community life and advocacy.

“I’d like to acknowledge the work of the outgoing Councillors and thank them for their commitment to the betterment of our city,” she said.

"To the Councillors Elect – I congratulate you and look forward to a constructive and productive working relationship over the next three years to deliver the Willoughby City Strategy.”

The Councillors Elect will officially be sworn in at a meeting on Monday 25 September 2017.
