Hallstrom Park Playground refreshed and refurbished

05 January 2017

Willoughby City Council has recently completed $500,000 worth of upgrades to Hallstrom Park Playground, located in Bicentennial Reserve, Willoughby.
The renewal continues on the playground’s existing zoo theme inspired by Sir Edward Hallstrom, who originally donated the park to the community. The zoo theme commends his philanthropy and trustee works at Taronga Zoo.
The upgrades are part of Council’s commitment to maintaining assets including parks, sportsgrounds and outdoor living spaces for current and future community use, funded by Council’s Infrastructure Levy. In 2016, levy funds of $1,177,574 were used as part of the $1,963,373 worth of improvements at 19 park and playground sites across the Willoughby area.
Based on feedback received from the community, the upgrades include new soft fall, furniture and equipment including a basket swing, turtle dome climber, four swings (including an inclusive boat seat), embankment slide, climbing ropes, fort structure, carousel, see-saw, percussion drums, renewed water play area, sandpit and sand table.
Several pieces of equipment were introduced as part of Council’s aim to keep improving ‘access for all’ to its facilities. These include a wheelchair-accessible carousel, giant swing and drums catering for children of all abilities. The park also features a gently-graded path network.
“Council’s commitment to maintaining and improving our beautiful parks and playgrounds ensures our community can continue to enjoy Willoughby’s outdoor living spaces now and into the future,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney. “I am thrilled that our most recent park upgrade is complete and to see so many families already enjoying the new facilities,” she said.
