Willoughby City Council has approved four applicants for The Concourse Performing Arts Subsidy Grants program, totalling an amount of $12,000.
The program seeks to subsidise the hire fee of the Civic Pavilion, Theatre and Concert Hall for not-for-profit performance groups, increasing accessibility and community involvement in cultural performances. Grants of up to $3,000 are available.
The applicant requested the grant to hold a concert starring internationally renowned Canadian soprano Patricia O’Callaghan. The project provides high exposure for The Concourse and supports the fundraising for rebuilding the Haven Amphitheatre stage.
Artarmon Public School Parents and Citizens Association
The applicant requested the grant to hold the end of year school presentation day, showcasing student’s musical performances and providing an opportunity for local young people to experience performing at The Concourse.
Castle Hill RSL Youth Band
The applicant requested the grant to hold a concert showcasing two National award-winning concert bands of wind band music, including major works from Australian composers. Eight members of the band reside within the Willoughby LGA. The performance will provide an opportunity for the band to perform in a prestigious venue and will attract a wide reaching audience.
Willoughby Girls High School Parents and Citizens Association
The applicant has requested the grant to hold an end of year school presentation ceremony, recognising award winners and showcasing musical and cultural group performances. This event will provide an opportunity for local young people to experience performing at The Concourse.
“The Small Grants program is a great opportunity for Council to support and assist programs that benefit our local community,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney. “I encourage community groups and individuals to apply for a grant and help us ensure that the arts continue to be incorporated as an essential part of the Willoughby fabric,” she said.
