The Willoughby Symphony's ravishing 2017 Season, Enduring Passion, opens with the dazzling GENIUS concert featuring masterworks by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Brahms.
Opening with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture, a commanding and poignant piece, audiences will be mesmerised by the remarkable Lily Higson-Spence’s interpretation of Mendelssohn’s evergreen Violin Concerto.
In the brilliant hands of our imitable Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM, Brahms’ Second Symphony crowns what will be an unequivocally divine concert experience as our shared journey of discovery with Australia’s most passionately enthusiastic audience embarks on another superb year of music making with the electrifying Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.
17 year old Lily Higson-Spence was a grand finalist in the 2015 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards, receiving awards for Audience Choice, Best Recital, and the Nelly Apt Scholarship, and was also the winner of the 2015 NSW Doctors Scholarship for Instrumentalists, the Melbourne Recital Centre Bach Competition, and received third prize at the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition.
In 2014 Lily was awarded first prize at the prestigious Alf and Pearl Pollard Memorial Awards, was a semi-finalist at the Gisborne International Music Competition and was awarded third prize in the Australian Open Concerto and Vocal Competition. Lily currently studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).
