Under the baton of renowned conductor, Stephen Mould, BRILLIANCE opens with Mozart’s sparkling Haffner Symphony, followed by Nielsen’s intensely beautiful Symphony No. 6 with its exquisite orchestral writing and a fascinating palette of incredible colours and textures.
In a thrilling addition to the program, extraordinary flautist Virginia Taylor guest stars to perform Matthew Hindson’s dynamic House Music, a flute concerto that will forever change your perception of the instrument.
Willoughby Symphony’s 2016 Composer-in-Residence, Matthew Hindson AM is one of the most performed and most commissioned composers of his generation. Matthew has been the featured composer at festivals across the world and his music has been used by the Birmingham Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Ballett Schindowski and the Sydney Dance Company.
Australian living legend Virginia Taylor is described as one of the most exciting flautists to appear on the concert platform in recent years, performing with some of Australia's finest orchestras and touring extensively both internationally and in Australia.
“Matthew’s residency is an incredible distinction for the Willoughby Symphony and we are honoured to have the opportunity to present his entrancing and fascinating music to our beloved patrons," said Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM. “Don’t miss our magnificent musicians perform one of the most exciting and virtuosic flute concertos of the repertoire with our illustrious guest, Virginia Taylor,” he said.
