2016 Media ReleasesNew Collection and Re-Homing Service for Willoughby residents
17 November 2016
Willoughby residents can now utilise a free collection and re-homing service run by The Bower Reuse & Repair Centre, an environmental charity and cooperative committed to reducing waste going to landfill. The collection and re-homing service accepts unwanted items that are still usable and in good condition, including household furniture, bikes, electronic appliances, small quantities of building materials, bric-a-brac, kitchenware and books. If an item cannot be donated, the item will be referred to more than 1000 organisations, charities, second-hand stores and recycling services. “The Bower Collection & Re-Homing Service aims to encourage the community to rethink what we do with our unwanted household items in order to continue to improve our environment and reduce the burden on landfill,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney. “A lot of unwanted items end up in a landfill when they could have been reused. By rethinking what we put out for Council Clean up, we can make a real reduction to the amount of waste we throw out,” she said.
