Have Your Say: Gore Hill Park Redevelopment

30 June 2016

Willoughby Council is calling on the lower North Shore community to have their say on the draft Plan of Management and Concept Plan for the future redevelopment of Gore Hill Park, St Leonards - set to meet the needs of a growing and changing population in the St Leonards CBD and the wider Willoughby, North Sydney and Lane Cove areas.

It is anticipated the redevelopment will be undertaken in two stages, and constructed as funds become available. The initial stage has received funding from a Commonwealth Government Grant and is proposed to commence in early 2017. The latter stage will be funded by a Voluntary Planning Agreement associated with the development of the nearby Gore Hill Technology Park.

The redevelopment will see the existing parklands, oval and current sports facilities turned into a significant regional public space by providing a greater range of much needed active and passive recreational opportunities on the site. At the same time Council aims to create a park and playground for use by local residents, North Shore workers, Royal North Shore Hospital visitors and the wider community.

Plans for Gore Hill Park include:

Stage 1

  • New playground facilities and exercise stations
  • Barbecue picnic areas, seating, landscaping and paths.
  • An all - weather synthetic grass playing field

Stage 2

  • An indoor sporting facility catering for a range of sports (organised and leisure)
  • Underground parking

"The redevelopment of Gore Hill Park is part of Council’s commitment to providing a range of quality and accessible community sports facilities, as well as leisure and recreation spaces that promote the health and wellbeing of the Willoughby community and beyond," said Willoughby Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney.

"I encourage the lower North Shore community to let us know your thoughts and have your say on this major project by taking part in the community consultation," Mayor Gail added.
