Changes, additions and extras for the Artarmon Loop

22 January 2010

A new timetable, additional stops and an extended service during off peak periods will come into operation for the Artarmon Loop from Monday 1 February.

The increasingly popular Artarmon Loop is a free shuttle service that operates from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, catering for workers, residents and visitors in Artarmon, particularly in the Artarmon industrial area. The service aims to encourage the use of public transport and reduce car usage across the City of Willoughby.

The new timetable will see the Loop running every six to ten minutes during peak times, which are between 6am and 10am and between 2pm and 6pm, and every 15 minutes during off peak periods, which are between 10am and 2pm.

This year, the Artarmon Loop will trial an extension of the route which will incorporate an extra loop through the grounds of the Royal North Shore Hospital and an extra loop encompassing the Artarmon shops and railway station. The additional loops will be added to the regular route in the off peak period, between 10am and 2pm.

Passengers wishing to travel along the regular route can access either bus marked with a blue or red sign. Passengers who would like to travel to the Artarmon shops or railway station during the off peak period should catch the bus marked with a red sign which departs St Leonards station every 30 minutes, and passengers for the Royal North Shore Hospital should catch the bus marked with a blue sign which also departs St Leonards station every alternating 30 minutes during the off peak period.

“More than 4 500 passengers are using the Loop each week, with customer numbers increasing every month. The Artarmon Loop provides a great alternative to driving personal vehicles to the area,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.

“Willoughby City Council is committed to providing sustainable transport options for our community and we aim to continue improving the Artarmon Loop service for its valued users,” he said.

Customers should also note that the bus stop outside St Leonards station in Herbert Street has been temporarily relocated 200 metres north to accommodate road and drainage works associated with the Royal North Shore Hospital redevelopment.
