Northbridge Library to Move to New Premises
20 January 2010
Northbridge Library is moving just up the road from its present location to the refurbished former church at 258 Sailors Bay Rd, Northbridge. The opening will be celebrated with an action-packed community open day from 10.30am to 3pm, Saturday 27 February.
The new community facility will provide expanded library services and collections as well as a community space for local groups to meet. The community space will be hireable outside library operating hours and used for activities such as community and club meetings, art and craft workshops and use by private tutors and study groups.
In its new location the library will offer a program of activities tailored to the local community such as children’s story time sessions, book club meetings and special events in the enclosed outdoor reading area.
Young people will have a designated study area located on the mezzanine level. Regardless of age, all members of the community will benefit from the modern technology with internet and WIFI access and online resources, word processing and photocopying facilities.
The Library will also have a special local history section. The section, supported by a $2 000 grant from the Northbridge Progress Association, will provide historical information and photographs of the local area and community.
“The new Northbridge Library, situated in the beautifully restored church, will enable us to provide a larger and better equipped library for the local community, while also maintaining the character of the local neighbourhood,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.
“Northbridge Library already has a fantastic record of providing quality library services to the community. The new community facility will provide a community hub and a meeting place where the community can meet and interact,” he said.
The current library, located at 296A Sailors Bay Road, Northbridge, will close on Saturday 13 February. During the relocation period, books and other items can be returned to the return box located at the front door of the new library or at any of Willoughby City Council’s branch libraries at Chatswood, Artarmon, Castle Cove and Naremburn.
From Saturday 27 February the Northbridge Library will offer extended opening hours:
Tuesday: 10am - 1pm
Wednesday: 2:30pm - 5pm
Thursday: 2:30pm - 8pm
Friday: 2:30pm - 5pm
